About the Artist

Originally from Mexico City, Raul Serrano is based in New York and has been painting for over forty years.  

Often drawing from dreams, his imagery mixes mythology, memories, and everyday moments to create surreal and poetic combinations. Complex and ethereal, his paintings deny one fixed meaning and instead are intended to be open to the viewers' own interpretations

This constant shift of meaning leads to new connections between the elements. Images range from representing puns and sayings, expressing “philosophies," to referencing other works from throughout art history.
